Anxiety Drugs

Anti-anxiety drugs like Xanax and Valium are used in half of all non-fatal overdoses in Queensland, according to a new study.

The study, published in the Journal of Addiction Medicine, revealed that drug addicts inject benzodiazepines in their search for a high level.

The University of Queensland's Alcohol and Drug Education and Research Center interviewed 50 people of needle and syringe programs about the state that was accidentally shocked last year.

"Nearly all people who were overdosed have used many different drugs at the time of their overdose," said Center Director Jake Najman.

"They have not only used opiates, for example heroin, they have often used two or three different drugs or even more."
